The situation

In the middle of Hernals, Vienna's 17th district, the Wiener Sport-Club opened its new stadium in 2026 – a stadium that takes what a modern smart building has to deliver to a new level.

Turf, stadium technology, visitor numbers, energy and water use and many more data sources come together on one central platform – and can be called up at any time, from anywhere.

Together with Salzgeber we created a new approach to smart stadium management: one platform used alike by stadium technicians, greenkeepers and managing directors. Every role gets exactly the information it needs to run processes more efficiently and to make sound decisions faster.

What baiond does there

It is the variety of data that makes a stadium project so exciting. However many data sources and data points there are, baiond brings them together on one platform and makes them usable for everyone.

  • Turf monitoring: Is the pitch watered evenly? How is the salinity developing? Is the pitch in top condition for the next match? baiond answers questions like these within seconds.
  • Weather data: Weather data from Hutchison Drei lets the team plan turf care even more precisely and match it to the actual conditions outside.
  • Noise monitoring: During an event, or at times when the stadium should be quiet, the noise level is monitored continuously. Limit breaches show up early, and the data can serve official reporting or protect the neighbours.
  • CO₂ in the dressing rooms: At half-time, recovery counts. So that players find the best conditions for it, the air quality in the dressing rooms is monitored. A low CO₂ level when they walk in sets them up better for the recovery phase.
  • Visitor flows: Where are visitors moving? How many people are in which area? Where do unusual crowds build up? A modern stadium can answer these questions without intruding on its guests' privacy: the camera turns the image into anonymous data right inside the device – only the information derived from it is transmitted.
  • Power and water monitoring: In a large venue, keeping an eye on many power and water meters takes real effort. Integrated smart meters do it automatically. Instead of reading meters one by one, a look at the individually configured dashboard is enough.

Many single data sources add up to one picture of the whole stadium – and the data turns into concrete decisions for a more efficient, more sustainable and smarter operation.

Checked Soil sensors · Weather station · baiond Gateway How did baiond know?
  1. Sensor
  2. baiond Gateway
  3. Space System
  4. AI agent

The sensor reports to the baiond Gateway, the Space System puts the reading in context (location, threshold, history), and the AI agent turns it into an answer.

  • Soil moisture 31.6%
  • Target 20–25%
  • Root-zone temp. 11.4°C

Mostly. The south penalty area reads 31.6 % soil moisture, above the target range of 20–25 % for firm footing, while root-zone temperature is 11.4 °C. The rest of the pitch is within range.

Recommendation

Skip the midday irrigation, aerate the south penalty area and re-check moisture at 15:00. Keep the under-soil heating on until root-zone temperature passes 12 °C.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Can baiond monitor noise limits at a stadium?

Yes. Noise sensors measure the level during events and at quiet times. Breaches of a limit show up early, and the recorded data can be used for official reports or to answer neighbours' concerns.

How can a stadium count visitors without filming them?

At the Wiener Sport-Club the camera turns its image into anonymous data right inside the device. Only the result leaves it – how many people, in which area, moving where. Your data protection officer checks the setup for your venue.

Can weather data feed into turf care?

Yes. At the Wiener Sport-Club weather data from Hutchison Drei sits next to the soil readings from the pitch, so the greenkeepers can plan watering and care around the actual conditions.
