Bike Parks: trails, traffic and safety in view
Riders per trail, waiting time at the lift, trail surface after rain and the bins at the hut in one platform. baiond shows the operator where the park is filling up before it gets dangerous.

What goes wrong quietly.
Trails you cannot see
The park stretches over a mountainside. How many riders are on trail 3 right now, and whether the flow line is jammed at the lower jump, is a question answered by radio or not at all.
Incidents that reach you late
A slick section after rain, a broken berm, a rider down: the patrol finds it on the next round. Until then every rider on the trail is on their own.
Maintenance by rota, bins by luck
The crew rebuilds the trail that is on the plan, not the one that took the most wheels. The bins at the hut overflow on the sunny Sunday, not on the day they were scheduled to be emptied.

- Rider flow 28/min
- Safety limit 20/min
- On track 41
No. Rider flow on trail 3 has increased to 28 bikes per minute, exceeding the recommended safety limit of 20 bikes per minute, with 41 riders on track. Combined with recent rainfall, trail surface grip has decreased, increasing the risk of accidents and trail damage.
Temporarily redirect riders to trail 2 and notify the trail crew to inspect the affected section.
Would you like me to investigate further?
Looking closer. This is what the data shows:
Possible reasons- The lift has been running at full capacity since 08:00; trails 1 and 2 are still closed for morning inspection.
- 9 mm of rain fell between 05:00 and 07:00; surface moisture on the lower berms is 34 %.
- Saturday: 1.8× the riders of a weekday at this hour.

- Waiting time 23min
- Target ≤ 10min
- In queue 186
Too long. Waiting time at the valley station is 23 minutes, against a target of 10 minutes or less, with 186 riders in the queue. The queue has grown steadily since 10:20.
Bring the two carriers back into service and restart the gate B scanner. Announce the current waiting time on the screen at the hut so riders spread out over the next hour.
Would you like me to investigate further?
Looking closer. This is what the data shows:
Possible reasons- Only 6 of 8 bike carriers are in service; two were taken off for a hanger inspection at 09:40.
- The day-ticket scanner at gate B has been offline since 10:15, all riders pass through gate A.
- Sunny Saturday: entries are 30 % above the same day last year.

- Fill level 84%
- Empty at 80%
- Full in approx. 1.5h
Yes, two of them. The terrace bins at the hut are at 84 %, above the emptying threshold of 80 %, and at the current rate they will be full in about 1.5 hours. The bins at the trailheads are below 40 %.
Send the hut team to empty the two terrace bins now and move the 16:00 round to 17:30. Add a third bin on the terrace for the season.
Would you like me to investigate further?
Looking closer. This is what the data shows:
Possible reasons- Fill level has risen 6 points per hour since 11:00, twice the rate of a weekday.
- The hut terrace has counted 310 visitors since opening; the lunch peak starts at 13:00.
- The scheduled emptying round is at 16:00.

Where the sensors sit.
Every dot is a sensor family in its typical place. Select one to see what it measures and what baiond does with it.
baiond connects the counters at the trailheads and the lift, the surface and weather sensors along the trails and the fill-level sensors in the bins on one platform. Every trail reports riders per minute, moisture and grip continuously; you set the limit per trail, and when it is exceeded the crew on duty gets a message with the trail, the readings and the section to check. Ask on a busy Saturday where it is tight, and the answer names the trail.

Riders on trail 3 are a guess from the lift queue.
12 on track, 67 today, per trail, on the screen at the hut.

What managers ask before they start.
How does baiond count riders on a trail?
Counters at the trailhead and at the end of each trail record every bike that passes, anonymously. baiond turns the two counts into riders on track, riders per minute and the daily total per trail.
Can it tell me when a trail is over capacity?
Yes. You set a limit per trail in riders per minute or riders on track. When it is exceeded, the crew gets a message and can redirect riders at the lift, put up a sign or close the trail; every closure is logged with time and reason.
What happens after heavy rain?
Surface sensors on the exposed sections report moisture and temperature. Combined with the rain gauge and the forecast, baiond flags sections that are likely to be slick and suggests which trails to open first once they drain.
Do the sensors need power or cables on the mountain?
No. Counters, surface sensors and bin sensors run on batteries or small solar cells and send by LoRaWAN over long distances to the baiond Gateway at the valley station or the hut.
Can I use the numbers for the season report and the lift company?
Yes. Riders per trail, per day and per season, peak hours and closures are exported in a click. Operators use them for trail investment decisions, the lift contract and the tourism board.
Does baiond also work for pump tracks and city bike lanes?
Yes. The same counters and platform serve a municipal pump track, a bike lane or a trail centre without a lift; only the limits and the messages change.
