Golf Courses: every green watered on evidence
Soil moisture per green, weather on site, water and energy at the pump house and play frequency per hole in one platform. baiond tells the head greenkeeper where to water today and where not to.

- Soil moisture 14.8%
- Target 20–25%
- Greens in range 17/18
What goes wrong quietly.
Eighteen holes, one impression
The course is walked at dawn and the irrigation schedule is set for the whole property. Green 8 in the sun and green 14 under the trees get the same run time.
Stress that shows when it is too late
Drought stress, salt build-up and disease start under the surface. By the time the turf turns, the tournament is on Saturday and the repair takes weeks.
Water and power nobody itemises
The pump house runs at night, unwatched. A stuck valve or a leaking lateral costs a month of water before the invoice shows it.

- Soil moisture 14.8%
- Target 20–25%
- Greens in range 17/18
Yes. Hole 8 is showing critically low soil moisture at 14.8 %, well below the target range of 20–25 %, and the turf indicates increasing drought stress. All other monitored greens (17 of 18) remain within the optimal range.
Increase watering around hole 8 now, check the left sprinkler head, and continue monitoring soil moisture over the next few hours.
Would you like me to investigate further?
Looking closer. This is what the data shows:
Possible reasons- Green 8 faces south-west and received 6.1 kWh/m² of solar radiation yesterday, the most on the course.
- The sprinkler head on the left side of the green delivered 40 % less water than its neighbours last night.
- No rain is forecast for the next 48 hours; wind stays at 20 km/h.

- Flow 18.2m³/h
- Scheduled 0m³/h
- Since 52min
Most likely because water is leaving the east main line. Flow reads 18.2 m³/h although the schedule calls for 0 m³/h at this hour; the pump has been running for 52 minutes outside any programmed cycle.
Close the east main line valve remotely and send the morning crew to fairway 11 first. Run the remaining greens on the west line tonight.
Would you like me to investigate further?
Looking closer. This is what the data shows:
Possible reasons- Line pressure dropped from 6.1 to 4.3 bar at 02:48, which matches a burst lateral, not an open valve.
- Soil moisture at fairway 11 rose by 9 points in the same hour while its neighbours stayed flat.
- The last irrigation cycle on that line ended at 01:30 as scheduled.

- Wait at tee 12 14min
- Target ≤ 5min
- Groups on course 46
At hole 12. Groups are waiting 14 minutes at the tee, against a target of 5 minutes or less, with 46 groups on the course. Holes 1–11 and 13–18 are flowing at normal pace.
Move the mowing crew to the back nine now and hold the next two tee times by five minutes. Schedule fairway mowing before 08:00 on tournament days.
Would you like me to investigate further?
Looking closer. This is what the data shows:
Possible reasons- The mowing crew has been on the 12th fairway since 10:50, groups are waiting for it to clear.
- Two four-balls teed off at 10:30 with a 6-minute gap instead of the usual 10.
- The 12th is the longest par 5; average time per group rose from 17 to 23 minutes today.

Where the sensors sit.
Every dot is a sensor family in its typical place. Select one to see what it measures and what baiond does with it.
baiond connects the soil sensors in your greens and fairways, the weather station, the meters at the pump house and the counters at the tee boxes on one platform. Each zone reports its moisture, temperature and salinity continuously, baiond combines them with rainfall and evapotranspiration, and the irrigation plan follows the readings instead of the calendar. Ask in the morning which areas need water, and the answer names the holes, the reasons and the run time.

Your industry guide
One PDF for your industry: the questions baiond answers there, the sensors that measure it and what changes on site.
What managers ask before they start.
How many sensors does a golf course need?
Typically one soil sensor per green and one per fairway zone that behaves differently – sun, shade, slope. A weather station on site and a meter at the pump house complete the picture. Most courses start with the greens and add fairways later.
Does baiond control the irrigation itself?
baiond tells you where and how long to water and can pass the run times to your irrigation controller via the gateway. Whether the valves open automatically or after your confirmation is your setting.
Can I see the water and energy use per pump station?
Yes. Flow meters and electricity meters report to the same platform as the soil sensors. Litres and kilowatt-hours per night, per pump and per month sit on one timeline with the irrigation runs, so a leak or a stuck valve stands out quickly.
Does the weather data come from our own station?
From your station where you have one, and from satellite and forecast services in any case. baiond combines rainfall, wind, radiation and humidity into an evapotranspiration estimate per zone so that tomorrow's rain is already in today's plan.
Is the player counting anonymous?
Yes. Counters at the tee boxes record rounds and pace of play, nothing personal. The data shows which holes are busiest at which hour so maintenance can be scheduled around play.
Does it help with the water permit and sustainability reporting?
Yes. Every litre and kilowatt-hour is logged with time and zone. Reports for the water authority, the club board or a GEO certification are an export, not a week of collecting.
