Built to measure

Custom-built Sensors: when the sensor does not exist yet

When no sensor on the market measures what you need, baiond builds one. Designed for your site, tested in a pilot, and reporting into the same platform as every other sensor.

Custom-built Sensors
Protocols: LoRaWAN

Most questions are answered by a sensor someone already makes. Some are not: the voltage on 800 km of electric fence far from any power line, the width of a crack in a 600-year-old wall, a reading in a place where nothing off the shelf survives. That is when a custom sensor makes sense.

baiond designs the sensor around the question, builds it and puts it on site in a pilot, first a few units, then the whole site. It reports by radio to the baiond Gateway like any catalogue sensor, so its readings appear next to temperature, energy and weather, and the AI agents answer questions about it in the same plain language. The Fence Control sensor for Rhino Ark in Kenya started exactly this way.

How it comes about

From "we need to know" to a sensor on site.

  1. The question

You describe what you need to know and where. We check whether an existing sensor can do it first.

  2. The build

If none can, we design the sensor: what it measures, how it is powered, how it transmits.

  3. The pilot

A small series goes on site. We compare the readings with reality and adjust.

  4. The platform

The sensor reports into baiond like every other. Its readings answer questions from day one.

  1. Sensor

  3. Space System
  4. AI agent

The sensor reports to the baiond Gateway, the Space System puts the reading in context (location, threshold, history), and the AI agent turns it into an answer.

  • Voltage 5,900V
  • Target ≥ 8,000V
  • Section 180m

Yes. Fence voltage dropped to 5,900 V in the northwest section, significantly below the target range. The affected area is approximately 180 m long.

Recommendation

Inspect the northwest fence section for vegetation contact, damaged insulators or a broken wire.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

When do I need a custom-built sensor?

When no catalogue sensor measures the value, or none survives the place: remote lines without power, historic fabric that must not be touched, extreme weather. We check the catalogue first.

How does a custom sensor project start?

With your question and a site visit. Then a prototype, a pilot with a few units on site, and the rollout once the readings hold up.

Does a custom sensor work with the rest of the platform?

Yes. It sends to the baiond Gateway like every other sensor, so its readings sit next to temperature, energy and weather and can be asked about in plain language.
