Presence & Access Sensors

Presence and access sensors tell you whether a room is in use, whether a door stood open and whether someone got in who should not. The facts behind heating only used rooms, the cold-room door at night and a quiet perimeter.

Presence & Access
Protocols: LoRaWAN

A heated meeting room nobody books, a cold-room door left ajar after the last delivery, a side gate that opened at 02:10: each is a small event that costs money or causes damage because nobody sees it in time. Presence and access sensors turn these events into data with a room, a door and a timestamp.

Motion and radar sensors report whether a space is occupied, contacts whether a door or window is open, vibration and glass-break sensors whether someone forces their way in. All of them send wirelessly to the baiond Gateway. The Space System combines them with temperature and energy, so a question like "Was the cold room door left open overnight?" gets the answer: 38 minutes, 9.4 °C at the peak.

Variants

Every Presence & Access variant, one platform.

Pick the variant that fits the place. Whatever you choose, the readings arrive in the same platform and answer the same questions.

Motion sensor

Motion sensor

PIR, passive infrared

Notices movement in a room by the change in infrared heat.

A PIR sensor reacts when a warm body moves through its field of view. It is energy-efficient and reliable, the standard for presence in offices and intrusion alarms. It only sees what is in its field of view, so the position decides how well it works.

Measures
Movement, occupied / free
Typical use
Offices, meeting rooms, corridors
Door / window contact

Door / window contact

Magnetic contact

Reports every time a door or window opens, and for how long.

Two parts, one on the door and one on the frame: when the magnetic contact breaks, the sensor reports it. It is simple, inexpensive and usually battery-powered, so it fits almost any door. In baiond the open time sits next to the room temperature, which is how an open cold-room door becomes visible.

Measures
Open / closed, open time
Typical use
Cold rooms, fire doors, windows
Radar presence sensor

Radar presence sensor

Sees presence even when people sit still, in any light.

Radar picks up the smallest movements, down to breathing, so it knows a room is occupied when a PIR sensor thinks it is empty. It works in darkness and behind thin covers, which makes it precise for occupancy and quiet for access monitoring.

Measures
Presence, number of people
Typical use
Workplaces, hotel rooms, secured areas
Infrared beam

Infrared beam

Photoelectric beam

An invisible line across a gate or path that reports each break.

A transmitter and receiver span an infrared beam across a gate, a walkway or a fence line. Whoever crosses it breaks the beam and triggers a message. Beams cover long distances and cope with most weather.

Measures
Crossings, time
Typical use
Gates, perimeters, long corridors
Vibration sensor

Vibration sensor

Shock sensor

Feels drilling, banging or tampering on a wall, safe or fence.

Fixed to a wall, an enclosure or a fence, it registers impacts and tampering before a door is open. Adjustable sensitivity keeps false alarms low. The same sensor also records structural vibration, for example from construction next door.

Measures
Shock, vibration
Typical use
Safes, plant rooms, fences, historic walls
Glass break sensor

Glass break sensor

Recognises the sound of breaking glass at a window or shopfront.

It listens for the particular acoustic signature of shattering glass and tells it apart from other loud noises. One sensor covers several windows in a room, part of a layered protection for ground floors and shopfronts.

Measures
Glass break events
Typical use
Shopfronts, ground floors, showcases
Ultrasonic intrusion sensor

Ultrasonic intrusion sensor

Fills a closed room with sound waves and notices any movement.

The sensor sends high-frequency sound through a closed space and detects the change a movement causes. It catches movement other sensors miss, in vaults, containers or archive rooms, but reacts to strong airflow, so it belongs in closed rooms.

Measures
Movement in closed rooms
Typical use
Vaults, archives, containers
Access control reader

Access control reader

RFID, keypad, biometric

Logs who entered a secured area and when.

Card readers, keypads or biometric readers decide who may enter and log every entry and exit. In baiond the access log sits next to the other readings of the room, so an entry at an unusual hour stands out.

Measures
Entries, exits, credentials
Typical use
Server rooms, plant rooms, restricted areas
Tamper sensor

Tamper sensor

Reports when someone opens, moves or disables a device.

Built into a housing, a control cabinet or a sensor enclosure, it notices when the device is opened, moved or cut off. That protects the equipment itself, including sensors in remote places.

Measures
Opening, movement, power cut
Typical use
Control cabinets, remote sensors

The sensor reports to the baiond Gateway, the Space System puts the reading in context (location, threshold, history), and the AI agent turns it into an answer.

  • Door open 38min
  • Peak 9.4°C
  • Threshold ≤ 4°C

Yes. The door contact reported the door open from 22:41 to 23:19 — 38 minutes. The temperature climbed to 9.4 °C and was back below the 4 °C threshold at 00:05. The deviation is already in the HACCP log.

Recommendation

Check the door closer before the next delivery and confirm the log entry. From the curve, the goods are unlikely to be affected; check them as your HACCP plan requires.

Should I add a rule that alerts you after five minutes of open door?

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Is baiond an alarm system?

No. baiond records presence and access events as data and sends messages when something is unusual. A certified alarm system stays where insurance requires one; baiond can read its events alongside the other readings.

How does presence save energy?

baiond shows which rooms are heated or lit while nobody uses them. That list is where demand-based heating and cooling start.

Do I need new wiring for door contacts?

Usually not. Door and window contacts mostly run on battery and send by radio to the baiond Gateway; they are quick to fit.

Which sensor shows whether a room is really occupied?

PIR works for corridors and rooms where people move. Where people sit still, at desks or in meetings, radar is more reliable.
